Living a life in balance is a challenge we all face. For those of us in the "business" of providing peaceful, relaxing, restorative and regenerative experiences and settings for others, it is particularly helpful when we have some "sanity savers" within our reach to practice living such a life.
"Using all Senses in the Wellness Mindset"
Red Flower, Judith Jackson, and Aromatherapy Associates
This panel of three industry leaders, all of which have helped pioneer
the use of aromas in spas, came together to present their thoughts on
the use of scent in spa experiences and in creating a "good life".
While each panelist gave a description of how their product lines are
created to provide the element of scent to spas, questions were also
posed and answered regarding the power of scent, the idea of good
aromas being available to all and not just associated with luxury, and
how scents evoke a sense of well being and relaxation.

Ms. Yael Alkaly began the presentation and gave a glimpse into the panel's discussion and topics addresed.
"What Memberships Mean to a Successful Spa"
Chris Pulito: General Manager, Mirbeau Inn & Spa
Mr. Chris Pulito discussed how to increase spa profits, drive revenue towards other departments and fund spa programs in his Membership presentation for NYSPA's 2010 Symposium.
"The Spa STAR Report"
Jan Freitag: VP, Smith Travel Research
Mr. Jan Freitag's presentation "The Spa STAR Report: Luxury Spa Performance Statistics" includes an overview of total US Luxury hotel spa performance from a sample of 45 luxury hotels and an overview of NYC luxury hotel spa performance from a sample of 5 luxury hotels. Points covered are:
- Recovery from the recession;
- Average Retail spending per treatment; and

Dollars per treatment.
"Redefining Wellness"
Ellie Whalen: Founder, Sprayology
Ms. Ellie Whalen led a discussion at our 2010 Symposium on what "wellness" is defined as and whether or not that definition is accurate in today's world. Can you only "be well" through Western medicine and practices? Should homeopathy now be included in becoming well? What has changed through the course of the years to alter the definition of being well?
